In the ongoing audio-visual work Meet Them (2022-2026), Flynn explores the aesthetic and physical attributions of various communication technologies as a fundamental apparatus for internal reflection in the context of a post-pandemic society.
During pandemic isolation, the live-stream video platform became a portal of communication between oneself and the outside world. The interface not only displayed iconography relating to functionality (such as mute or screen share), but we were also faced with a mirrored reflection of ourselves in the form of a small window in the corner of the screen. Through this interface we are confronted with our own image - digitized and in motion, and as we curate what is captured within this frame, we all engage in a form of digital portraiture.
Within Meet Them, Flynn extends this inquiry through the experimental short film Internal Family Systems. Employing Google Meet across multiple laptops, Flynn constructs a digitized “boardroom” scenario, staging self-directed meetings as a performative strategy for interrogating their internal landscape and the many "selves" that co-exist within them.
